EDMONTON – The defending ACAC women's hockey champion MacEwan Griffins continue to add promising pieces for the future.

Head coach Lindsay McAlpine announced on Monday that forward Jayme Doyle of Calahoo, Alta., will join the team in time for the 2018-19 season.

"Jayme is quite threatening offensively," said McAlpine. "She going to be someone we look to to score points. She'll come into the lineup and impact it right away."

Doyle has a title of her own from the 2016-17 season, helping the St. Albert Midget AAA Slash become the first Alberta squad to capture the national championship. She was among the team leaders with 15 points in 29 games.

"When she's on, there's something happening. She creates opportunity at the net," said McAlpine. "Great playmaker, but she also has an accurate shot and the ability to put the puck away.

"It's what we need on our team. We've got a lot of great fore-checking players, great role players, but not a ton of great offensive players. So hopefully she can do that for us."

Doyle currently has two goals and an assist in 10 games this Alberta Female Hockey League season with the Slash.

"It's nice that we've got a talented player in our local area that's excited about coming to MacEwan and being a Griff," said McAlpine. "She wants to take the business program here and is excited about staying close to home. That's always nice when you can keep a player local."
