VANCOUVER – MacEwan's Grace Mwasalla was named Canada West Women's Soccer Player of the Week on Tuesday after leading the Griffins to a big win over Calgary that clinched top spot in the Central Division.

Mwasalla helped the MacEwan Griffins lock up first place, recording a goal and an assist in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Calgary Dinos.

The win, MacEwan's 10th of the season, kept the Dinos at bay in the second seed and means the Griffins will host a Canada West quarter-final, rather than hit the road for the start of the playoffs.

Mwasalla took over the game on Sunday scoring the opening goal of the match in the 8th minute, adding an assist in the 90th minute. The first-year midfielder from Chatham, Ont. also came up with a clutch defensive play that stopped the Dinos attack and led to the ball going the other way to set up MacEwan's second goal in the 68th minute.

The Griffins (10-2-0) host the third seed out of the West Division, the Fraser Valley Cascades (6-4-2) at 1 p.m. on Saturday (Clarke Stadium). The Canada West Quarter-final can be seen live on Canada West TV presented by Co-op.
