Rhonda Roth (nee Wolfram) – women’s basketball

(Inducted April 2003)

Rhonda attended Salisbury Composite high school in Sherwood Park, participating on both the volleyball and basketball teams. In her Grade 12 year, her parents moved to Calgary, but Rhonda stayed behind, living with an older brother and sister to finish her education and play on the sports teams.

After taking a year off to work following high school, Rhonda came to MacEwan in 1982 to begin a Business Administration Diploma. Recruited by several ACAC teams, Rhonda chose MacEwan and became one of the greatest Griffins players in women’s basketball program history.

Former coach Trix Baker, who went on to lead the University of Alberta Pandas to their only national championship in program history, remarked at the time of induction that Rhonda was the best athlete she ever had the pleasure of working with.

Rhonda was a very talented post player with the Griffins, leading MacEwan in scoring over three seasons (1982-83, 83-84, 85-86). She was a first-team ACAC all-star all three seasons and a CCAA All-Canadian her last two years.

Following her collegiate career, Rhonda remained active in basketball around Edmonton, playing with several former Griffins athletes. In 1999, Rhonda became the program director for the Stars Basketball program that introduces children from Grades 1-4 to the sport of basketball. She and other led these programs in Sherwood Park.

Rhonda continues to have a passion for physical activity and enjoys playing and teaching basketball.

For her athletic abilities and contribution to the growth and development of the Griffins Athletics, it is with pride and honour Rhonda Roth (nee: Wolfram) is inducted to the Griffins’ Wall of Distinction.
