EDMONTON – Mistakes cost the Griffins in their first crack at the cross-town rival Alberta Pandas on Friday night as they fell to a 3-0 defeat at the Saville Centre.

The Griffins couldn't get rolling against their rivals, posting a negative attacking percentage in the match (-.076) and lost 25-14, 25-11, 25-11.

"We are disappointed in out play, but are committed to making it better," said interim head coach Dusty Freimark. "Mistakes cost us tonight, but we're excited to play tomorrow."

Mariah Bereziuk led MacEwan with nine kills, while Payton Shimoda returned to the lineup from an injury and posted 16 assists.

Veteran libero Megan Foxcroft had a team-high nine digs.

The teams will meet again on Saturday (6:30 p.m., Saville Centre, Canada West TV).
