EDMONTON – Longtime Griffins women's hockey head coach Lindsay McAlpine has agreed to a year secondment to serve as MacEwan's first full-time Associate Director of Athletics.

McAlpine, who has been at the helm of MacEwan's women's hockey team for the past 12 seasons, will support Athletics Director Joel Mrak in leading the department during the upcoming 2022-23 Canada West season.

Headlining her extensive leadership experience, McAlpine acted as MacEwan's Interim Director of Athletics in 2021, prior to Mrak joining the department.

"Lindsay is an incredible person and coach, and we are very excited to have her join the administration team for the upcoming season as the Associate Director of Athletics," said Mrak. "She has given so much to supporting her own athletes over the years and this move allows the department to benefit from what she has to offer for all of the student-athletes across the eight teams.

"We look forward to the great initiatives that Lindsay will working on this year."

McAlpine has an impressive 158-109-24 coaching record with the Griffins since 2010, leading the program to three-straight Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference championships* before guiding the squad in its inaugural Canada West season in 2021-22.

(*McAlpine's 2020 Griffins were a win away from a fourth-straight championship before the series was cancelled due to COVID-19).

In her new role, which began Aug. 1, McAlpine is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the department with a focus on the student-athletes.

"I am excited about the opportunity to lead Griffin Athletes in a different capacity with the hopes of connection and advancement of the entire department," said McAlpine. "I am also grateful to all my players and staff – current and past – for the support and understanding as I take on this new challenge."
