EDMONTON – Women's hockey student-athlete Brianna Sank is the MacEwan Athletics' first star of the week after stopping 44 of 45 shots over two games in leading the Griffins to a weekend sweep over the Regina Cougars.
Sank's efforts led to 3-1 and 3-0 victories – the latter a 19-save shutout – as MacEwan stayed alive in the playoff race.
Men's volleyball student-athlete Jefferson Morrow and men's hockey student-athlete Marc Pasemko are the second and third stars, respectively.
Sank is making her third appearance on the Three Stars list, having been previously named third star on both Oct. 11 and Nov. 1. Morrow is being honoured for the second time, after being named second star on Nov. 29.
It's Pasemko's first appearance on the 2022-23 Three Stars list.
1st STAR: Brianna Sank, G, women's hockey

Recording the second shutout of her Canada West career (and third of her university tenure, including one season at the ACAC), Brianna Sank was the backbone of MacEwan's efforts against Regina on the weekend.
Altogether, she stopped 44 of 45 shots for a sizzling .978 save percentage in the Griffins' weekend sweep of the Cougars.
In Friday's 3-1 win, Sank made 25 saves as MacEwan won despite being slightly outshot.
In Saturday's 3-0 victory, she had a 19-save shutout.
For the season, Sank now has a 2.53 goals against average and .910 save percentage, while facing the second-most shots of any goaltender in the conference.
Sank and the Griffins are headed out on the road this weekend, bound for Trinity Western for games on Friday (8:15 p.m. MT) and Saturday (3 p.m. MT, both Canada West TV).

It was a special night for the MacEwan men's volleyball team on Saturday as they defeated UFV 3-2 to snap a 27-game losing streak with their first victory of the 2022-23 season.
Jefferson Morrow was front and centre in the effort as he led the Griffins with 14 kills on a .231 hitting percentage, adding a team-high 11 digs, two blocks and accounting for a team-high 16.0 points.
In Friday's 3-0 loss to the Cascades, Morrow also led the Griffins with 11 kills on a .400 hitting percentage, adding three digs, while accounting for a team-high 11.0 points.
For the season, Morrow is second on the Griffins with 178 kills, but tops the team in kills per set (3.36). He also leads the Griffins in digs (91) and is second in points (199.5) and service aces (11).
Morrow leads MacEwan into a weekend series at Alberta on Friday (7:30 p.m.) and Saturday (5 p.m., both Saville Centre, Canada West TV).

Marc Pasemko has made an impact for the Griffins all season, but the Colorado College transfer's play really stood out in a pair of weekend losses at Regina.
The Edmontonian drew an assist on David Kope's opening goal in Friday's 3-2 loss before scoring the Griffins' lone tally in a 5-1 defeat Saturday.
For the season, Pasemko shares the Griffins' goal-scoring lead with five on the campaign and is tied for seventh on the team with eight points in 16 games.
Pasemko leads the Griffins into home action vs. Trinity Western on Friday (7 p.m.) and Saturday (4 p.m., both Downtown Community Arena, Canada West TV).
