Griffins hosting four-team Made in Alberta Invitational tournament this weekend

EDMONTON – As they prepare for a new season, the Griffins men's basketball team will host three Canada West opponents for a non-conference tournament this weekend in their home gym.

And they have a title sponsor - the Alberta Food Processors Association.

The Made in Alberta Invitational tournament will feature the Griffins, plus teams from the University of Regina, Trinity Western and the University of Alberta.

"We are truly thankful for the partnership we have with the Alberta Food Processors Association," said Griffins head coach Mike Connolly. "Though this partnership, we will continue to provide our athletes and the community of MacEwan University with a quality experience home tournament.

"We are able to attract quality teams to Edmonton and to our campus and we will continue to bring in quality teams over the next few years through this partnership with the Alberta Food Processors Association." 

The tournament will open on Friday at 6 p.m. with Regina vs. Alberta before MacEwan hosts Trinity Western (8 p.m., all games David Atkinson Gym).

Saturday's action features Alberta and Trinity Western at 3 p.m. before MacEwan and Regina meet at 5 p.m.

Tickets are $10 each. Children get in free.

"Partnering with our community to give our student-athletes a quality experience while offering everyone a chance to see the Griffins before the Canada West regular season starts," said Connolly. "It's just going to be a quality basketball experience for everyone."

The tourney will be the Griffins' final action of preseason before kicking off the 2023-24 campaign at home vs. Mount Royal University on Nov. 3-4.
