EDMONTON – After his performance on a historic night in program history, Griffins captain Kole Gable has been named the Canada West men's hockey player of the week.

Gable scored a hat trick in MacEwan's big 7-2 victory over Manitoba on Friday – including a powerplay marker – and was named the game's first star. The win clinched a U SPORTS playoff spot for MacEwan, their first in program history.

The fourth-year forward from Fort McMurray, Alta. then added a shorthanded marker the following night in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Bisons.

Gable finished the regular season with 19 points in 24 games, helping lead the Griffins to their best record in program history.

It's the first time Gable has won a Player of the Week award, and it comes on the final regular season weekend of his career. He concludes his career at MacEwan with 27 goals and 51 points in 96 regular season games (17 goals and 36 of those points coming in 68 Canada West games).

It's also the first time the Griffins have had back-to-back player of the week wins in any sport after Ethan Strang won the award last week.

Gable and the Griffins have clinched the No. 6 seed for the Canada West playoffs and will visit the yet-to-be-determined No. 3 seed in a best-of-three series Feb. 16-18.
