The most dominant player in MacEwan men’s basketball history, Valpreda amassed 1,414 points and 752 rebounds in just three seasons. Both are program career records that still stand today, 19 years after he sank his last basket at MacEwan.

Valpreda is one of just three Griffins student-athletes to win a CCAA Player of the Year award as he earned that honour in 2001 after averaging a program-best 24.8 points per game on a record 66.4 field goal percentage.

He led the Griffins to an ACAC Championship and CCAA bronze medal that season, was named to the CCAA tournament first all-star team and won a CCAA All Canadian honour.

After a two-year stint at the University of Alberta where he led the Golden Bears to a national championship and was named Canada West MVP, he returned to MacEwan for his final university season in 2004-05 and led the Griffins to their best-ever result - a CCAA silver medal to go along with another ACAC Championship.

Valpreda was again named to CCAA tournament first all-star team and as a CCAA All Canadian, while earning his second ACAC first team all-star award.

He was also named an ACAC second team all-star in his first season in 1999-2000.

Overall, the Griffins teams he played for combined for a 54-18 regular season record. After his final season, he was named MacEwan Male Athlete of the Year.

Valpreda has coached the Concordia women’s basketball team since 2013 and has had two ACAC coach of the year nominations.
