EDMONTON – Fulfilling various roles in her high school hoops career has molded the latest recruit of the MacEwan women's basketball program into a dynamic, well-rounded player on both ends of the court.

Kelowna Secondary Owls guard Morgan Clark will join the Griffins in 2024-25, head coach Katherine Adams announced Monday.

"She's a phenomenal athlete, coming from a multi-sport background," said Adams. "She's long, athletic, a slasher, a driver.

"She's oozing potential."

The 5-foot-9 guard will join MacEwan's Science program in the fall, relocating to Edmonton, which will represent a homecoming of sorts. Clark grew up in Cold Lake, Alta. before moving to Kelowna in junior high.

Most recently, she led Kelowna Secondary to the B.C. 4A provincial championship, where they finished seventh.

Clark, who was more of a defensive player earlier in her high school career, added a nice offensive touch to her game in her Grade 12 season, proving she has the ability to score and defend at the U SPORTS level.

"As she went from Grade 11 to 12, her role shifted on her team where she was leaned on more as a scorer," said Adams. "It's certainly part of her game that she has developed and was relied on to do more of that."

But it was her defensive play that first piqued Adams' interest. Her style is exactly what the Griffins are looking for in a player.

"The thing that excited me most when I first saw her play was her ability to impact the game on the defensive side of things," said Adams. "I think that leading into offence is really going to fit in well with the play style we're trying to play moving forward.

"I think she's going to come in and find a good role here."

Morgan Clark was leaned on for her offensive touch as much as her strong defensive game this season at Kelowna Secondary.
