EDMONTON – MacEwan women's soccer student-athlete Suekiana Choucair has been named as the Sutton Player of the Month for October.

As the Griffins wrapped up the best regular season in program history, reaching 30 points for the first time since joining Canada West in 2014, Choucair broke two of her own MacEwan records.

The fifth-year midfielder from Edmonton recorded eight assists and 13 points, both eclipsing previous marks she set for assists (6 in 2018) and points (9 in 2016).

Choucair also matched a Canada West women's soccer ironwoman streak reached only two times before when she played in all 70 games of her five-year career. She actually started every match in her career and leaves with every player career record in program history.

"It's an honour to win it, especially in my last month of ever playing MacEwan soccer in a Canada West season," said Choucair of being named Sutton Player of the Month. "I'm really happy I got to end my career on that. It's a nice award to get in my last month."

The prestigious award considers performances from all Griffins student-athletes during the month of October.

Choucair recorded two goals and five assists in eight games during the month, leading the Griffins to top spot in the Prairie Division and the right to host the Canada West Final Four this past weekend.

For her efforts, she was named a Canada West first team all-star for the first time in her career.

As Sutton Player of the Month, Choucair wins a free night's stay in the Sutton Place Hotel in downtown Edmonton.
