EDMONTON – Consider their first preseason tests in the books.

And what tests they were.

The MacEwan University women's volleyball team finished the Griffins/Pandas Invitational with a 1-2 record, going against some of the top teams in U Sports over the weekend in their home Atkinson Gym.

The Griffins kicked it off on Thursday by beating a team they could very well be battling for playoff position this season in the Canada West ranks as they bested rival Mount Royal University 3-2 (25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 14-25, 15-4).

Friday saw a visit from defending national champion UBC, who claimed a 3-0 win over MacEwan (25-17, 25-22, 25-20).

And on Saturday, another one of the top teams in the conference – the University of Calgary Dinos – scored a 3-0 win over the Griffins (28-26, 25-13, 25-20).

The Griffins will continue to prepare for their regular season opener at Thompson Rivers University Oct. 20-21.
