EDMONTON - Former Griffins men's badminton star Wen Wang will be inducted into the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference Hall of Fame on May 10, the conference announced Tuesday.
The most dominant badminton athlete in Canadian Colleges Athletic Association history, Wang made an immediate impact after coming to MacEwan from China in 1988.
He won three-straight CCAA men's singles championships, led the Griffins to three-straight ACAC team championships and led the conference to three-straight CCAA team championships.

Wang quickly dominated post-secondary badminton in 1988, securing three consecutive CCAA men's singles championships.

While at MacEwan, he was the premier badminton athlete in North America, achieving a world ranking of 20th. He also led the Griffins to victory in an exhibition series against Canada's national badminton team.
Wang was named as MacEwan's Male Athlete of the Year across all sports in 1989-90.

Also a member of the CCAA Hall of Fame, Griffins Wall of Distinction and the Edmonton Sports Hall of Fame, Wang has continued to build the sport, owning and coaching at B-Active Badminton club after also coaching at Royal Glenora, both in Edmonton.
Under his tutelage, he's helped produce multiple national champions and Pan-American champions, including his children – Takeisha Wang and Desmond Wang – who went on to win CCAA titles in the sport, competing for Concordia.
