Opportunity

MacEwan University Athletics is comprised of 16 teams (basketball, cross country, curling, golf, hockey, soccer, track, volleyball). This full-time position reports to the MacEwan Griffins Director of Athletics, under the portfolio of the Associate Vice President, Students and Teaching. The position demands a high-performance professional with the ability to work in compliance with MacEwan University, Canada West University Athletic and U Sport Association's regulations and expectations.
 

Skills

The successful candidate in this position must be a mature, creative, highly-motivated team-oriented individual, who is able to lead a group of student athletes effectively within a multi-sport high performance delivery model. The ability to communicate both orally and in writing, with other staff and with the public, is vital. This individual must be organized and possess time-management skills that enable efficient multiple-task coordination. The successful candidate will have previous experience in budget oversight of a team's revenue generation and expenditures as well as be responsible for development of sport specific equipment requirements.
 

Position Requirements

The Men's Basketball Head Coach is responsible for all aspects of the program, both on and off the court, on campus and in the community. Major responsibilities include student-athlete recruitment and selection, executing team practices, directing the team during game situations, ensuring complete compliance with sport governing organization policies and procedures, arranging and scheduling non-league competition, confirming team travel arrangements, monitoring student-athlete academic success, student athlete eligibility, and off season training and conditioning, developing, planning and arranging summer camps/clinics, working in consonance with an Alumni and Booster Club and community liaison.

Additional leadership and organizational responsibilities within the following family of opportunities to be assigned by the skill set and interest of the applicant: Sport Clubs, Holiday and Summer Camps, Community Programs, Alumni Relations, Equipment, Travel, Academic Services, Scholarships and Booster Clubs, Sponsorship, Student Athlete Council, Special Student Events, Game Day Event Planning, Sports Information and Athletics webpage development responsibilities.
 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate to provide these services will have a university degree in kinesiology/physical education or sport management or undergraduate degree in another discipline will be considered, and credentials appropriate to high performance coaching with a minimum Level 3 NCCP coaching certification; a minimum of 5 years coaching experience preferably at the post-secondary level; experience working in a sport/recreation complex/facility an asset; experience in building a successful high performance program and fund development desired; he or she will have a proven track record which demonstrates possession of high levels of leadership, communication and organizational skills, sportsmanship and integrity.
