EDMONTON – Against an uber-tough opponent – U SPORTS No. 2 Alberta – Hickey stood tall with eight blocks in the two-game series.

In Friday’s 79-23 loss, Hickey provided almost half of the Griffins’ offence, scoring nine points to go along with six rebounds, four blocks and a steal.

In Saturday’s 85-59 defeat, where the Griffins played much better, Hickey was third on the team with nine points, while adding three assists, two rebounds, two steals and four blocks.

Both four-block performances are in the top five for the most blocks by any player in a Canada West women’s basketball game this season.

For the season, Hickey is averaging 2.3 blocks/game, which is leading Canada West. It’s also a career best for Hickey and is on track to be the third best by a Griffin in a Canada West season behind Kelly Fagan’s 3.2 and 2.4 marks in 2014-15 and 2015-16, respectively.

The Griffins are enjoying a bye week as they head into the semester break. They’ll return to action Jan. 9-10 at Lethbridge.
