Kyle Becker

(Inducted April 2004)

Kyle attended Bev Facey high school in Sherwood Park where he participated in volleyball, basketball and soccer. In his Grade 12 year, he was a City All-Star for both basketball and volleyball as their team captured the Edmonton Metro Championships.

Kyle was recruited by several colleges but chose MacEwan where he decided to focus on volleyball while he pursued his Physical Education programming.

Kyle played a leadership role on the Griffins teams as a setter. He helped lead the team to an ACAC bronze medal in his third season.

Kyle’s individual abilities were recognized by his selection as an ACAC all-star in his last two seasons (96-97, 97-98). He also played at MacEwan from 1992-94.

While he transferred to the University of Alberta to complete his PE degree and teaching credentials, he returned to coach volleyball, basketball and soccer back at his high school.

Kyle also worked for the MacEwan Sport and Wellness department at the Access Desk for several years, providing a friendly face and knowledgeable customer service.

Kyle went on to coach women’s volleyball within the Alberta provincial system at the midget and juvenile levels and worked as an assistant coach with the Griffins women’s team for several seasons. He also helped coach Team Alberta at the Canada Summer Games.

For his athletic abilities and contribution to the growth and development of Griffins Athletics, it is with pride and honour Kyle Becker is inducted to the Griffins’ Wall of Distinction.
