Megan Wood, basketball
(Inducted 2025)
After playing a season of ACAC volleyball at Red Deer College (2011-12), Megan Wood came to an ID camp for the Griffins women's basketball team and the rest is history.
Over four seasons (2012-16), she became the program's all-time scoring leader, amassing 1,504 points - 237 more than second-place in 50 years of Griffins women's basketball.
Wood also had 593 career rebounds - third all-time by a Griffins women's basketball player.
And two of her seasons were in the higher-level Canada West conference.
Wood's first two campaigns came at the end of the Griffins' ACAC era and she capped that off by leading MacEwan to an ACAC Championship and CCAA bronze medal in 2013-14.
With Wood in the fold as they entered Canada West in 2014, the Griffins barely took any time to adjust to the higher level, going 33-7 in their first two seasons. Less than a month into their inaugural season, she scored 34 points against UBC Okanagan - a program record that stood for a decade.
In 2015-16, her final season of university eligibility, Wood led the Griffins to the Canada West Final Four for the first time. The run included a thrilling Canada West quarter-final series win over Victoria at MacEwan, in which Wood scored a program record 34 points in the deciding game.
Awards and accolades she accumulated over her tenure include Canada West second all-star team (2015-16) and third all-star team (2014-15) honours, being named CCAA All Canadian (2013-14), earning a spot on the CCAA tournament first all-star team (2013-14), and winning ACAC Player of the Year (2013-14), ACAC Rookie of the Year (2012-13), and MacEwan Female Athlete of the Year (2015-16).
