Three-time CCAA national champion Wang dominant in badminton

Wang came to the college from China as an international student and was a member of the Griffins’ badminton team for three seasons from 1987 to 1990.

He dominated the provincial and national collegiate badminton scene, capturing an unprecedented three Canadian Colleges Athletic Association men’s singles titles.

He led the Griffins badminton team to three Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference championships and led the Alberta team to three CCAA badminton team championships.

Wang Wen led the Griffins badminton team to victory in an exhibition series of matches versus Canada’s national badminton team. An incredible badminton athlete, who always helped to build the talent of those on his team, Wang Wen helped to establish MacEwan as a dominant force in Canadian college badminton.

Between 1988 and 1997, Wang Wen was the premier badminton athlete in North and South America, with a world ranking of 20th.

Following his education at MacEwan, Wen was employed as a badminton professional at the Royal Glenora Club in Edmonton and continued as a key builder of the sport, now with B-Active Badminton Club.

For his athletic abilities and contributions to Griffins Athletics, it is with pride and honour Wang Wen is inducted to the Griffins’ Wall of Distinction.
