MacEwan golf team members were part of a rewarding volunteer experience when they lent a hand at the fourth-annual Military Appreciation Day and Golf tournament, held at the Edmonton Petroleum Golf and Country Club last week.

Barrett Belland, Elizabeth Stewart and Rachel Wiebe each played with a group of three military service men and women during the tourney, offering tips and being a host for the club.

"It was awesome to be able to play with some of the young men and women that serve our country," said Edmonton's Stewart, the 2015 ACAC women's player of the year. "The Petroleum Club was in excellent shape for the tournament. There were some good shots out there had by everyone. "

The tournament raised funds for Canadian military members and their families, who have been financially affected during their service to our country. This is the second-straight year the Griffins golf team has volunteered at the event.

"The military appreciation tournament was a fantastic way to interact with those whom we might not have had the chance," said Red Deer's Wiebe, who just wrapped up her first year competing for the Griffins. "It was rewarding to meet so many great people and appreciate them for what they do for us every day."
