KAMLOOPS, B.C. – With a spirited second-half surge, the Griffins women's basketball team rallied from seven down to take a one-point lead over Thompson Rivers University with three minutes left.

But a Shenise Sigsworth block with eight seconds remaining sealed a 65-61 win for the WolfPack, who completed a sweep of the Griffins on the opening weekend of the season.

"It was definitely a good bounce back from yesterday's performance," said Griffins head coach Katherine Adams, whose squad lost 72-58 to TRU on Friday. "We played a little more like ourselves. Just the fight and grittiness that we like to see. It was a great experience for a young team in a close game."

Fourth-year guard Kayla Ivicak posted a gritty double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Griffins, while rookie Mackenzie Farmer led the offensive effort with 13 points and two boards.

Paige Knull chipped in 12 points, four steals and two rebounds, while fellow fifth-year Kerilynn MacLennan had four points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Both also added two assists.

TRU was led by Michelle Bos' 15 points and eight rebounds, while Leilani Carney chipped in 15 points and three boards.

"It was a goal of ours today to be better defensively," said Adams. "We gave up too many points yesterday. It wasn't that much of a difference today, but I thought the way we were able to do it was much better."

The 0-2 Griffins now return to Edmonton for their home-opening weekend as they welcome Lethbridge on Nov. 3-4 (6 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively, Atkinson Gym).
