CALGARY – In as serious a test as they've faced this season, the MacEwan Griffins fell 96-56 to the U SPORTS No. 3 Calgary on Friday night after the Dinos shot a sizzling 56.1% from the field.

The home side scored in multiple ways, knocking down 46 points in the paint and 33 from behind the arc.

"Our defence was not good to start," said Griffins head coach Mike Connolly. "We gave up too many open looks to a good team that started the game off well. We gave too much of an opening cushion. We also didn't start well shooting, missing several good looks."

With the result, Calgary improves to 5-0 and MacEwan drops to 0-3 on the young Canada West season.

Despite the lopsided score, the Griffins had the high scorer in the game as Milan Jaksic finished with 24 points in one of the most prolific performances of his career. The fourth-year forward went 10-for-17 from the field and added seven rebounds, two steals, a block and an assist.

Job Janda added nine points and five boards for MacEwan.

Calgary was led by Nate Petrone, who scored 23 points on 10-for-11 shooting from the field, adding six assists, while Noah Wharton had 15 points and six assists, and bench players Daniels Baumanis, Spencer Roberts and Gurshan Sran chipped in nine points apiece.

The teams will meet again on Saturday (6 p.m., Canada West TV).
