EDMONTON – Marc-Olivier Daigle made 19 saves for his first shutout of the season as the MacEwan Griffins kicked off the second semester by blanking the visiting Briercrest Clippers 4-0 on Friday night at the Downtown Community Arena.

On the other end, the Griffins peppered Clippers goaltender Dan Dekoning with 54 shots throughout the contest.

After the former Ontario Hockey League goalie stoned them on all 20 shots he faced in the opening period, the Griffins finally beat him at 13:33 of the second period when Garan Magnes found the twine for what would stand up as the game-winner.

Nolan Yaremchuk and Dallas Smith also scored second period goals before Ryan Baskerville added a third-period insurance marker.

With the win, the Griffins improve to 10-4-1-0 on the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference season, while the Clippers fall to 2-12-1-0.

The teams will meet again on Saturday at the Downtown Community Arena (1 p.m.).
