EDMONTON – After becoming the first MacEwan player to net a hat trick in a Canada West game, Ethan Strang was named the Canada West men's hockey player of the week on Tuesday.

Strang lit the lamp three times during the Griffins' 5-0 win over Manitoba last Friday, including netting the game-winner in the first period.

"Scoring goals is the most exciting part of hockey, and to get my first hat trick, it's such a great feeling," said Strang.

Strang also added an assist in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Bisons to complete a four-point weekend and finished the series with nine shots.

It's just the second time a Griffin has been named Canada West men's hockey player of the week, following Riley Brandt on Oct. 19, 2021.

Strang is currently tied for third in goals in Canada West with five on the season so far.
