EDMONTON – For years, Spencer Foxcroft has sat in the stands at the David Atkinson Gym watching his older sister Megan play for the MacEwan women's volleyball team.

Expect the roles to be reversed next season.

Just as Megan graduates from the program after a five-year career that began in 2018, Spencer will be continuing the streak of having a member of the Foxcroft family at MacEwan as he gets set to join the Griffins men's volleyball team in the fall.

"Obviously, with his sister being here, he's known about our program for a long time," said Griffins head coach Brad Poplawski. "He grew up watching games in our gym with Megan playing for the women's team. He's a guy we've known of for a long time.

"I think having his older sister being here, he understands what we want to accomplish at MacEwan. He was super eager in wanting to come here, so I think it's great for us."

Like his sister, Foxcroft plays the libero position and brings the same strong character and leadership that Megan – captain of the Griffins in 2022-23 – brought on and off the court.

Spencer Foxcroft is coming off a solid run of volleyball that saw him earn a 2022-23 Metro All-star award as captain of the Strathcona senior men's team and play libero for the NAVC U18 Griffins, one of the top club teams in the province that's been hauling in hardware all year.

A season before that, Foxcroft helped lead NAVC's U17 squad to the 2021-22 national championship.

"He had a great high school career, won nationals at U17 with NAVC and was on that top NAVC team again this year," said Poplawski. "He's a really solid player with great ball control and has an unbelievably good work ethic in the gym.

"He just checks all the boxes that you want in a student-athlete."
