EDMONTON – Making a concerted effort to get more speed in the wide areas of their game, Griffins women's soccer head coach Dean Cordeiro went looking for specific types of players for his 2025 recruiting class.
Hannah Corrigan was practically made to order.
The Edmonton Scottish United product, who can play fullback or as a winger, brings a terrific array of skills, highlighted by a cannon of a shot and wings on her feet.
"There are very few people in the league who can do what she can do with the ball," said Cordeiro. "She can strike a ball top corner from 40 yards no problem. With her speed, she's another exciting piece that we've added to the team."
Corrigan is a goal scorer who also can open up space for her teammates with slashing runs up the field and has the versatility to play either side of the pitch.
"We have a smaller class, but one of our biggest emphases was getting a little more dynamic, a little bit quicker and Hannah ticks those boxes," said Cordeiro. "She's a very accomplished forward, notably a winger, locally with Edmonton Scottish. She's scored a lot of goals throughout her youth career.
"I feel her skillset fits our game model as someone who can play at the fullback position and give us some more numbers in attack. We love her ability to strike a ball with either foot and the way she can join the attack with her speed and tenacity; she creates a lot of problems for her opponents."
The 5-foot-5 Lillian Osborne high school product will have every opportunity to earn valuable minutes as a rookie.
"Hannah can score goals, and she can create," said Cordeiro. "She's going to be a very important piece to the puzzle here. Fullback is a position we're pretty thin at, so we're excited about what she brings to the table.
"Like I said, she's a very accomplished forward, as well, so I wouldn't be surprised if she gets some reps up top, as well."
