EDMONTON – Bringing experience from Canada's national team program that's rare at the U SPORTS level, talented recruit Sadie Brisbin has the kind of prime-time skills to make an immediate impact as a rookie for the MacEwan Griffins women's soccer team in 2025.

Playing as a fullback, Brisbin represented Canada at the CONCACAF U15 championship in Tampa, Fla. In 2022, and also wore the Maple Leaf in 2023 for the country's CONCACAF U17 Qualifiers in the Dominican Republic, scoring a goal.

Needless to say, her experience will be huge for the Griffins.

"She's a dynamic winger who creates opportunities for herself and her teammates. She is a selfless player who makes everyone around her better" said MacEwan head coach Dean Cordeiro.

"We love the experience she brings, having represented Canada at the U17 level. She was also at the same Vancouver Whitecaps Super Rex program with Carly Uchacz for a two-year cycle."

Like Uchacz – a previously-announced Griffins recruit at the goalkeeper position – Brisbin returned home for her post-secondary career. The Sherwood Park native, who grew up in the Phoenix club program, has a lot to bring as a rookie for the Griffins in 2025.

"She is just a standout, on and off the field," said Cordeiro, who has also coached her with Northwest United/St. Albert Impact, including at last year's national club championship. "Sadie is someone who makes a difference on every team she plays with. She will go out there and really make things happen for us.

"We see her as a winger, but she's also played as a fullback. She is very versatile."

A multi-sport athlete, Brisbin is also a competitive ringette player with Sherwood Park Power.

"You can see the benefit of her ringette when Sadie plays," said Cordeiro. "Her balance is just different, a result of being such a good skater."

Although she's a rookie, Brisbin will bring veteran's poise that comes not only from playing soccer internationally, but from the requisite training needed to prepare for such a high level of competition.
"When you have national team experience, going through qualifiers and game-planning, scheming to qualify for World Cups, it's a whole different level of preparation," said Cordeiro. "Not a lot of players have that, especially at her age. When you have someone who understands the prep required and with that kind of experience, it's just a major asset to the team.

"We are so excited to welcome Sadie to the Griff family."
