EDMONTON – In light of the COVID-19 situation with Alberta Health restricting large group gatherings and the Friday decision by the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference to suspend all 2019-20 competition, MacEwan Athletics has put all activities on hold until further notice.

This includes competition, practices and the institution's annual athletics awards gala, which had been scheduled for March 26.

The ACAC women's hockey championship between the Griffins and NAIT Ooks (Game 3 was slated for Friday night) has been suspended with the Griffins up 2-0 in the best-of-five series.

MacEwan's men's hockey semifinal series against Red Deer College (slated for Friday, Saturday and Sunday) is also on hold, while the March 21-22 ACAC Indoor Track Championship, which the Griffins were set to compete in, is suspended.

MacEwan's women's soccer game that was to be staged against Alberta REX on Saturday and the Griffins men's soccer team's final match of the winter season against FC Edmonton U20 on March 20 have both been cancelled.

Additionally, the Griffins golf team will no longer be traveling to the annual UFV Invitational later this month.

We appreciate all the hard work and efforts of our teams and empathize with them over the impact of this tough decision, but the health and safety of all of our athletes, staff, fans and the general public is of utmost importance.

The MacEwan Griffins will continue to work with the university and our sports' governing bodies in monitoring the situation and abiding by all public health directives.
