EDMONTON – On a mission to make the Canada West playoffs in 2023-24, the MacEwan Griffins volleyball teams kick off a 24-game regular season slate on Oct. 20-21 at the University of Calgary.

Local fans will get their first live look at the Griffins on Oct. 27-28 when they play the Saskatchewan Huskies on their home-opening weekend.

New this season, first semester home games in the David Atkinson Gym will feature all women's games first and men's games second, while in the second semester, that will be flipped with all men's games first and women's matches following.

A notable stretch for both teams has them playing their cross-town rivals from Alberta at the David Atkinson Gym on Feb. 2-3 and visiting perennial powerhouse Trinity Western Feb. 9-10 in Langley, B.C.

"Some new faces and key veterans are all looking forward to beginning the 2023-24 season in the extremely competitive Canada West," said Griffins men's head coach Brad Poplawski. "Everyone is excited about the year and the team cannot wait to get going in the fall."

The Griffins women will host Regina alone on Nov. 24-25 (6 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively) as the school doesn't have a men's team.

To balance out the schedule, the Griffins men will also host a weekend by themselves as the UBC Thunderbirds visit Nov. 10-11 (6 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively).

Both MacEwan teams will wrap up the regular season Feb. 16-17 vs. UBC Okanagan at the David Atkinson Gym.

More information on tickets will be made available closer to the season.
