EDMONTON – Finding sharpshooters who can hit from behind the arc is crucial for the MacEwan Griffins men's basketball team if they're to see an improvement in the standings.

It's an area that needed shoring up after the Griffins hit the fewest three-pointers in Canada West last season.

The latest addition in head coach Mike Connolly's 2023 recruiting class should help with that.

Leduc Composite high school product Nash May specializes in dropping treys, like the one he hit at the buzzer against Strathcona in a regional qualifier that sent the Tigers to the 2022 Alberta 4A high school provincials.

"Nash can really shoot the three pointer and his added three shooting ability is just what the Griffins are needing," said Connolly of the 6-foot-2 guard. "We didn't shoot the ball well or consistently from the three-point line last season and it was an area we needed to address. Nash solves this problem; he is an elite three-point shooter."

May led Leduc back to 4A provincials this season where they entered as the No. 9 seed and wound up being edged in the semifinals of the 'B' side of the draw.

What really stood out to Connolly about him besides his talent in shooting threes is his strong effort level.

"Nash is a tough competitor who works very hard," said the Griffins head coach. "What really impressed the coaching staff was his competitive fire and his high basketball IQ. He is a coach's son who is prepared to make the jump to the next level.

"We are really excited to get a great student-athlete in Nash May."
