EDMONTON – After two seasons of post-secondary ball in the Ontario Colleges Athletics Association, Archbishop O'Leary product Tevin McCallum is coming home.

The 6-foot-4 athletic guard has transferred to the MacEwan Griffins for the 2023-24 Canada West men's basketball season, head coach Mike Connolly announced Thursday.

A graduate from O'Leary in 2019, McCallum initially had designs on playing in the NCAA, but over COVID, those opportunities changed, and he wound up kicking off his university career in the OCAA.

"Tevin is a big athletic guard, who has the ability to really score and can create his own shot," said Connolly. "He will fit in nicely with our core of returning players adding post-secondary experience to our roster. Tevin is a good defender on the perimeter while also having the ability to score in the open court."

Video of his play at Canadore last season shows his ability to score from multiple spots on the court, including from beyond the arc where he shot 36.7 per cent last season for the Panthers. McCallum finished fourth on the team in scoring with 10.4 points per game.

Prior to a season at Canadore, he played with the Loyalist Lancers in 2021-22.

"Tevin's addition gives us more depth with three-point shooting, while we'll also benefit from his excellence in transition and in the open court," said Connolly.

McCallum is set to join MacEwan's Bachelor of Commerce program.
