MacEwan Athletics and Canada West Communications

EDMONTON – After making the Canada West playoffs for the first time last season, the Griffins men's hockey team will be looking to take the next step towards contender status in 2024-25.

Opposing bench bosses voted them to take a small step backward, instead, as Canada West revealed Thursday that the Griffins have been voted to finish seventh in their annual preseason coaches poll.

Defending champion UBC, Alberta and Saskatchewan took the top-three places in the poll.

MacEwan will open the season against cross-town rival Alberta this weekend as they host the Golden Bears on Friday (7 p.m., Downtown Community Arena) and travel across the river to meet them on Saturday (7 p.m., Clare Drake Arena, both Canada West TV).
