ABBOTSFORD, B.C. – Still short-handed due to a spate of recent injuries, the MacEwan Griffins men's volleyball team suffered a straight-sets defeat to the UFV Cascades on Friday night (25-21, 25-19, 25-13).

No doubt, the learning that's happening for the squad's younger players will pay off in the long run for MacEwan, but they didn't have enough on Friday to challenge a team they beat in preseason just over a month ago.

Mitchel Gorman returned to the lineup, leading MacEwan with nine kills, while veteran Jonah Karsten had five kills and four blocks. Daylan Andison added six kills.

With the result, UFV is now 2-3, while MacEwan drops to 0-5.

The teams will meet again on Saturday (7 p.m. MT, Canada West TV).
