CALGARY – The Calgary Dinos scored more than half their points off turnovers as they routed the MacEwan Griffins 76-34 in Canada West women's basketball action on Friday night.

After committing 39 turnovers, the Griffins gave up 39 points off of them and were never in the game at the Jack Simpson Gym.

Calgary held a 22-2 lead after 10 minutes and was up 42-7 at the half before MacEwan's offence woke up in the second half.

If there is a building block for the Griffins, it's the fact they were only outscored by seven points in the final 20 minutes, so they showed the ability to trade baskets for a time in the contest.

"It took us a half to find ourselves and get settled, but there are definitely some things we can take from the second half to build on for tomorrow," said Griffins head coach Katherine Adams. "We need to continue to do a better job of taking care of the basketball and limiting the opportunities that come off our turnovers."

Allie Spenrath led MacEwan with 10 points, while Unity Obasuyi chipped in nine, but the Griffins received just eight points from their bench on Friday and finished with 26.0 per cent shooting from the field.

Calgary got 21 points and seven steals from Amelie Collin, while Myriam Kone had 14 points and Lousie Rouse chipped in 12.

With the result, MacEwan drops to 0-3 on the season, while Calgary, ranked seventh in U SPORTS, improves to 3-2.

The teams will meet again on Saturday (4 p.m., Canada West TV).
