The MacEwan Griffins hockey programs are proud to partner with the MacEwan University Office of Human Rights, Diversity and Equity to host a virtual summit addressing racial discrimination in hockey.

'For the Growth of the Game' will engage attendees in the reality of racial discrimination in the sport through the sharing of stories from those who have experienced or witnessed racial discrimination in a hockey setting.

Set for Dec. 10, the virtual summit will be hosted by author and host of Hockey Night in Canada, Harnarayan Singh, and will feature a keynote address from Dr. Courtney Szto of Queen's University.

Featured guest speakers also include Dr. Marvin Washington (University of Alberta), Devin Buffalo (Indigenous Sport Council of Alberta), Lali Toor (Apna Hockey), Erica Ayala (New York City-based podcaster and sportswriter), Moe Hasham (Hockey4Youth) and Hunter Cardinal (Naheyawin).

Through the summit, participants will gain a better understanding of the reality of racial discrimination and will also build empathy towards understanding how it impacts social participation.

This project has been made possible by funding from the Government of Canada's Anti-racism Action Program.
