EDMONTON – Men's soccer student-athlete Rakan Yassin is the MacEwan Athletics' first star of the week after scoring twice during the Griffins' six-point weekend road trip to Lethbridge and Saskatchewan.
Yassin notched his first goal of the 2022 campaign last Friday, scoring MacEwan's first goal in their 3-2 win over Lethbridge. Then he scored the team's second on Sunday in a 2-0 win at Saskatchewan.
Since the men's soccer team was the only MacEwan squad in action over the weekend, second star Chance Carter and third star Egzon Jeteshi also come from their group.
It's the first honour of the season for all three student-athletes.
1st STAR: Rakan Yassin, F, men's soccer

The reigning MacEwan Male Athlete of the Year hit his stride on the Griffins' first road trip of the season, scoring two goals and leading the team to two huge victories.
Against Lethbridge on Friday, the third-year striker picked the bottom corner on a 28th-minute shot that kicked off the scoring for the Griffins, who eventually knocked off the Pronghorns 3-2.
Against Saskatchewan on Sunday, Yassin scored his second of the weekend when he took a great pass from Egzon Jeteshi, juked out a defender and blasted a left-footer far side past the keeper to give MacEwan a 2-0 lead they wouldn't relinquish.
He had eight shots (three on goal) in the two road games.

Chance Carter had a pair of assists in MacEwan's wins over Lethbridge (above) and Saskatchewan (Lethbridge Sports photo).
A key engineer in midfield, setting up the Griffins' attack and shutting down the opposition's, Carter is a big reason why MacEwan earned six points on a weekend road trip.
The former FC Edmonton player never left the field, playing back-to-back 90s for the Griffins, earning two assists.
Carter set up Egzon Jeteshi for MacEwan's second goal on Friday against Lethbridge and then played the ball into Ousman Maheshe for the Griffins' first goal against Saskatchewan on Sunday – the eventual game-winner.
Carter was also a big reason why the Griffins allowed the Huskies just one shot on goal Sunday as he was marked against dangerous Huskies attacker Diego Reveco.
3rd STAR: Egzon Jeteshi, M, men's soccer

The rookie striker had a big weekend for the Griffins, recording a goal and an assist in their two weekend victories.
Against Lethbridge on Friday, Jeteshi scored MacEwan's second goal in the 32nd minute – his first as a Griffin – when he took a Chance Carter pass and cracked it inside the near post.
Against Saskatchewan on Sunday, he played the ball nicely over to Rakan Yassin on the left wing, setting up the Griffins' second goal.
Jeteshi and the Griffins will host cross-town rival Alberta on Saturday (12 p.m., Clarke Stadium, Canada West TV).
