EDMONTON – Women's soccer student-athlete Kiann Bohnert is the MacEwan Athletics' first star of the week after scoring twice and logging huge defensive minutes in a pair of wins last weekend.
Most notably, the first-year centre-back scored twice – the first two goals of her U SPORTS career – as the Griffins beat Lethbridge 5-0 last Saturday.
Men's soccer defender Zach Rochat and women's volleyball libero Megan Foxcroft are the second and third stars of the week, respectively.
All three are appearing on the Three Stars list for the first time in 2022-23.
1st STAR: Kiann Bohnert, D, women's soccer

In a dream return to her hometown, Griffins rookie Bohnert scored the first two goals of her U SPORTS career on Saturday against the Pronghorns.
In the 25th minute, Bohnert scored MacEwan's first goal of the contest when she climbed the ladder on an Anna McPhee corner kick and headed it home. The tally would stand up as the game-winner in a 5-0 MacEwan triumph.
Bohnert also scored the Griffins' fifth goal of the match when she got on the end of a looping ball by Mariah Arnott into the Pronghorns box, and she headed it in.
Beyond her offensive prowess, which also included a shot on goal in a 2-1 win over Mount Royal University on Sunday for a total of four shots in two games, Bohnert was also a rock defensively, logging back-to-back 90-minute performances.
Bohnert will lead the Griffins into a pair of road games in Winnipeg this weekend – Saturday at Manitoba (11 a.m. MT) and Sunday at Winnipeg (10 a.m. MT, both Canada West TV).
2nd STAR: Zach Rochat, D, men's soccer

Just going about his business on the back line, the Griffins' co-captain continues to have a strong defensive season for the squad.
The centre-back logged back-to-back 90-minute games in a pair of road losses at Trinity Western and UNBC.
Rochat continues to be a rock of the back line for MacEwan, playing a holistic game with consistency and patience. He leads by example on and off the pitch for the Griffins.
The senior defender will be heading into the final two home regular season games of his MacEwan career this weekend as the Griffins host Saskatchewan on Saturday (12 p.m., Edmonton Scottish) and Lethbridge on Sunday (12 p.m., Clarke Stadium, both Canada West TV). The latter is Senior Day for the men's soccer team.
3rd STAR: Megan Foxcroft, LB, women's volleyball

Foxcroft led the Griffins in hard-fought matches against Winnipeg (3-2 loss), Regina (3-2 loss), Manitoba (3-0 loss) and Brandon (3-2 loss).
Her dedication on and off the court – (she's also a three-time U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian as she pursues a career in medicine) – have set Foxcroft up as a key leader for a young Griffins team.
The Griffins have two more non-conference matches remaining – Oct. 10 in Red Deer against Red Deer College and Calgary – before their home opener vs. Winnipeg on Oct. 21 (6 p.m., David Atkinson Gym, Canada West TV).
