MacEwan Athletics and Pronghorn Athletics
LETHBRIDGE – Everything went sideways for the MacEwan Griffins men's basketball team from the opening tip on Friday night.
When the contest finally ended, the visitors were on the wrong end of a 106-64 result to the homestanding Lethbridge Pronghorns.
"They jumped out to a 9-0 start, going three-for-three from the three-point line," said head coach Mike Connolly. "We couldn't recover."
The Griffins fall to 0-5 on the season, while the Pronghorns improve to 2-5, snapping a five-game losing streak in the process.
"Tonight, we played a team that shot the ball well from the three-point line who usually don't shoot it," said Connolly.
Indeed, the Pronghorns were hot from everywhere, going 26-for-34 from two-point range and 16-of-37 from behind the arc.
In addition, they also outrebounded MacEwan 43-24.
The Pronghorns were led by a breakout performance from rookie guard Deng Dak who scored 27 points on 11 of 17 shooting. Third-year transfer De'Andrae Pierre chipped in 13 points, while Chad Oviatt recorded 11 rebounds.
The teams will meet again on Saturday in Lethbridge (7 p.m., Canada West TV presented by Co-op).
