EDMONTON – Strength and size in the post is going to be crucial for the MacEwan Griffins men's basketball team as they grow as a program.

As they continue to bolster their inside game, head coach Mike Connolly announced Western Canada Prep Academy forward Joesef Gopie has committed to MacEwan for the 2022-23 Canada West season.

At 6-foot-7, 250 pounds, Gopie has the ability to dominate the inside of the paint.

"Joesef has matured greatly this past year with WCPA and we can see he is only starting to tap into his vast potential," said Connolly of the Edmontonian. "He is a quality character guy and he will continue to add to our culture and move us forward as we look to improve as a program."

Formerly with Edmonton Christian high school, Gopie is primed to produce at the U SPORTS level after taking his game to another level at WCPA.

"Joesef is a big strong forward whose size will give us some needed depth in the post position," said Connolly. "Our goal was to add size and depth to the forward position and we have done that with Joesef. He will grow into a quality Canada West post who will be able to contribute to our program immediately."
