EDMONTON – Continuing a tradition and lengthy lineage of strong goalkeepers, the MacEwan Griffins women's soccer program has added another top keeper to the mix.

A product of top Calgary youth programs, Southwest United and Blizzard, goalkeeper Kate Prince is set to join the Griffins for the 2022 Canada West season, head coach Dean Cordeiro announced Tuesday.

"She'll add to the goalkeeper union, as we like to call it at MacEwan," said Cordeiro of Prince, who will join Breanna Truscott, Bianca Castillo and Toni Gill. "We're excited about Kate. She's going to come in and compete. She's a great shot stopper, a gamer, who commands the area really well. Her rebound control is excellent and has very good athleticism."

Prince has Alberta Major Soccer League experience with the Calgary teams, Callies and Blizzard, and has shown she has the skill necessary to thrive at the Canada West level, noted Cordeiro, whose teams are always built strong from the posts out.

"It's critical – it all starts in goal," he said. "We're looking for keepers who are confident and fit into our playing style. We need keepers who are good with the ball at their feet and can distribute because we're a team that likes to build up through all the units of play.

"Kate's very comfortable with our style of play. She'll have the opportunity to learn and grow under some of these keepers who've done some amazing things. We're really excited at what Kate is going to achieve at MacEwan."
