EDMONTON – Maintaining ball control by linking passes in attacking up field is a key component of the Griffins women's soccer team's style.

To that end, new recruit Keyanna Charpentier is going to fit in perfectly.

"She's a winger who has great vision and 1v1 ability to take defenders on," said head coach Dean Cordeiro of the St. Albert product out of Paul Kane high school. "Keyanna, for me, is a top passer from that position. Her ability to break lines and create quality final acts is next level.

"We're really excited to add such a skillful, intelligent player to the winger position."

Charpentier will join several former teammates on the Griffins for the 2023 Canada West season, playing with Selynna and Marina Simao, as well as Hailey Mishio and Emma Clark on a Millwoods-based Selects FC when they went to nationals in 2019. She finished her youth career with St Albert Impact from 2021-22 alongside several other incoming Griffins recruits.

Charpentier was also a member of Team Alberta in 2019 and went to Alberta Summer Games in 2018.

The St Albert product has also more recently played under Cordeiro on Northwest United in both 2021 and 2022.

Keyanna Charpentier has a full range of skills to break down opposing defences from the wing position.

"She's just such a good creator," said Cordeiro. "She's got a good engine. We love her ability to take people on. She makes the players around her better with her ability to create and she is a clutch goal scorer when her team needs it.

"We're very happy to have Keyanna joining our program. She's another quality player to watch out for in our 2023 recruiting class."
