Pacey left-footed fullback Makoloski brings dynamic two-way ability to Griffins' lineup

EDMONTON – What speedy left-footed fullback Anna McPhee brought to the table over a five-year career at MacEwan is certainly an element that Dean Cordeiro wants to replace on his roster following her graduation from the program.

The closest resemblance to the Seattle native in his 2023 recruiting class is Julia Makoloski, a talented fullback from Camrose who offers some of the same traits.

Makoloski is currently rehabbing a knee injury, but when she gets up to speed, expect her to be a strong addition for the Griffins on the field.

"She is a dynamic fullback," said Cordeiro. "She's left-footed but can play on both sides. We love Julia's athleticism. Her ability to get up and down really fits our playing style.

"We need fullbacks who are very offensive-minded. With Anna McPhee graduating, we're excited about having another lefty in the lineup."

Makoloski, who is graduating from École Camrose Composite high school, came out of the St. Albert Impact program. She was also part of the Alberta (REX) Regional Centre of Excellence (2020), Whitecaps Academy (2021-22) and played for Team Alberta in 2021-22.

"She's an exciting player who brings a lot of things to the table," said Cordeiro. "She's a solid defender and we're excited about her joining the program."

With Makoloski bringing that left-footed ability, there's a chance she could one day take corners like McPhee did 91 times in her career, as the Griffins like to have in-swingers from whatever side the CK is on.

"It's a nice asset to have," said Cordeiro. "When you have someone who can play and also serve balls like that, it's definitely a huge advantage on set pieces."
