MacEwan University has sent notice to the Canada West athletic conference that it will discontinue the university's cross-country team, effective immediately. 

"This is a difficult decision," says Dr. Craig Monk, Provost and Vice-President, Academic, MacEwan University, "but, in reality, it simply reflects our recent operational reality. We understand and appreciate the hard work and dedication of our student athletes who continually strive for success in athletics and academics."

The university's cross-country program has not formally been in place since the 2019-20 season, due to the cancellation of all 2020-21 conference competition by Canada West as a result of COVID-19.
