EDMONTON – MacEwan Director of Athletics Ken Schildroth is pleased to announce the hiring of Ruth Ellen Thongdee as the department's new Athletics Services Administrator.

Thongdee has more than 11 years of professional administration experience, including the past five-and-a-half years in the NAIT Athletics department in a similar role.

"Ruth has an excellent skill-set and experienced base to handle this vital services portfolio," said Schildroth. "That combined with a thorough understanding of student athletes, coaches, and internal and external stakeholders, makes her a fabulous addition to our team."

Among Thongdee's responsibilities at MacEwan will be the management of all eligibility and compliance procedures in accordance with conference rules and regulations, co-ordination of scholarships and awards, travel arrangements, athlete registrations and other administrative duties in the Athletics office.

"What an amazing opportunity this is to be a part of the MacEwan Griffins," said Thongdee. "I am extremely excited to become a member of a team that excels in student-athlete excellence within a high-performance environment."

With a background in NAIT Business Administration, including a diploma in Office and Record Management, Thongdee has worked in several different capacities at NAIT, including in the Office of the President. Since February 2013, she has been the Assistant to the Director/Sports Administration Officer in NAIT's Department of Athletics and Recreation.

"Being athletic myself and having worked with student-athletes for more than five years at NAIT, I understand all the different layers of what being a student-athlete means within a post-secondary environment and I'm looking forward to the 2018-19 season," she said.

Thongdee starts with MacEwan Athletics on Sept. 4.
