KRASNOYARSK, Russia – MacEwan's Ember Large has posted some solid results through the first six days of representing Canada at the 29th Winter Universiade.
On Friday, she combined with Canadian teammate Alexander Maycock of Nipissing (Orangeville, Ont.) to finish 14th in the mixed team sprint event.
"Really fast and icy conditions," said Maycock. "We had had some rock hard tracks so we had some strong guides. The wax tech nailed it today and we skied against a tough field."
It's the foruth race of the event for Large, who kicked things off last Sunday with 47th-place finish in the women's 5 km – second-best of six Canadian female athletes.
On Monday, she was 49th in the women's 5 km pursuit – fourth amongst the Canucks.
On Wednesday, Large was one of 69 international competitors entered into the individual sprint (1.1 km) and she placed 42nd – second-best among Canada's female competitors.
Large is a member of MacEwan's indoor track team and was the top female of the meet during the MacEwan Invitational in January. She plans to compete at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference championship March 15-16 in Calgary.
