EDMONTON – Kylie Schubert is the MacEwan Athletics first star of the week after leading the women's volleyball team to a weekend sweep over Saskatchewan.
The second-year setter had 70 total assists in a pair of 3-1 victories over the Huskies as the Griffins improved to 4-2 in the Canada West standings.
Other athletes recognized this week include second star Shyla Jans of the women's hockey team and third star Deonte Doslov-Doctor of the men's basketball team.
Schubert and Doslov-Doctor are appearing on the three stars list for the first time this season, while Jans makes her second appearance, also being named first star on Oct. 16.

Setting two varied and creative matches against the University of Saskatchewan on the weekend, Schubert led the Griffins to a weekend sweep with 70 assists over eight sets.
She added two aces, 24 digs and six blocks in a pair of 3-1 wins at the David Atkinson Gym.
Numbers were solid for several MacEwan hitters – evidence that the setter did her job well. Right-side Janna Ogle had 25 kills, middle McKenna Stevenson logged 20, left-side Hailey Cornelis had 19, left-side Lauren Holmes chipped in 13 and middle Haley Gilfillan added 11.
For the season, Schubert is among the Canada West setting leaders with 190 assists (fourth) and 8.26 assists/set (sixth). That puts her on pace to challenge both of MacEwan's Canada West setting season records (755 assists and 8.30/set by Claire McLoughlin in 2015-16).
Schubert leads the Griffins into action against cross-town rival Alberta on Friday (7:30 p.m.) and Saturday (5 p.m.) at the Saville Centre.
2nd star: Shyla Jans, F, women's hockey

A night after the Griffins were only able to score once on 35 shots in a 2-1 loss to Olds, they desperately needed finishers.
Jans immediately stepped up in Friday's rematch, scoring twice in the opening period to give MacEwan all the offence they would need, as they went on to win 4-0.
Her goals were beauties, too, as both times Jans ripped a shot over the shoulder of goalie Lexi Bruce and under the bar.
For the season, Jans leads the Griffins and the ACAC with six goals and four assists in 10 games.
The Griffins are enjoying a bye this weekend and will return to action on Nov. 16-17 against SAIT.

3rd star: Deonte Doslov-Doctor, G, men's basketball

One of five MacEwan players hitting double digits in points during the team's best showing of the season to date in Saturday's 96-79 loss at Lethbridge, Doslov-Doctor made a big impact on both ends of the court.
In 38 minutes on the floor, he had 10 points, six rebounds, three assists and a steal from the guard position, helping the Griffins keep pace with the favoured Pronghorns for most of the game until late rallying attempts led to the score flattering the home side.
Doslov-Doctor added seven points, a team-high nine rebounds, an assist and a steal in 29 minutes of action on Friday as the Griffins' shooting went cold in a 92-54 defeat to Lethbridge.
In both games, he played great defence, setting an example for his younger teammates.
The Griffins will host the Winnipeg Wesmen on Friday (8 p.m.) and Saturday (7 p.m., both games David Atkinson Gym).
