EDMONTON – It didn't take long for Katherine Adams to get excited about Unity Obasuyi's potential at the U SPORTS level.

"I think in the first game I watched, it was 'oh, we're four minutes in and she has five blocks already.' " said the Griffins women's basketball coach of the intriguing Archbishop O'Leary forward, who has committed to MacEwan for the 2023-24 Canada West season.

Obasuyi played multiple roles for the Spartans during her high school career and demonstrated the tenacity, will and athleticism to fit right in with a Griffins team that prides itself on a scrappy, gritty identity.

"Unity is an incredible athlete," said Adams. "That was the first thing I noticed about her. She has the ability to impact the game in many ways. She's 5-11, but plays much bigger than that."

With some huge minutes on the Griffins out the door due to graduation and injury, Obasuyi will have an opportunity to make an impact right out of the gate next fall.

"She rebounds the ball well and impacts the game at the defensive end in and around the rim because of her length," said Adams. "And then there's her ability to score. She's a power athlete who can get to the rim, has a great scoring touch and she can hit a three.

"She's come from a system where she's had to do a lot, which will serve her well because it's added a lot of versatility to her game in being able to score in a lot of different ways. We're really excited to get her in our system and kind of refine some of those skills."
