EDMONTON – A new high-water mark has been achieved by the Griffins women's soccer program.

While they've had multiple entries in the U SPORTS top-10 rankings since joining the Canada West conference in 2014, the Griffins have never been as high as they are this week.

In the latest rankings released on Tuesday, the 9-1-0 club is ranking sixth in the nation.

"It's a special group," said head coach Dean Cordeiro. "We've said it from the start. As the season's gone on, we've gotten better and part of that is you see these incremental gains within the team. Coming off a strong weekend, it's nice to see those things get noticed and the team move up a couple spots."

MacEwan is coming off 8-0 and 4-0 wins over Lethbridge last weekend.

The Griffins will put their eight-game winning streak on the line when they visit the Calgary Dinos (8-1-1) for a weekend series Oct. 23-24 (both 12 p.m., Canada West TV presented by Co-op).

"Our goal is to keep climbing," said Cordeiro. "We're trending in the right direction. We've got big goals and it's nice to see us move up in the national rankings. That's great to see, but there's lots of work to do.

"We're going to take it one game at a time and we're going to see where this takes us."
