EDMONTON – Les Fisher is MacEwan Athletics' first star of the week after his performance under tough conditions at the ACAC Golf Championship.

While battling a three-club wind, the rookie on the Griffins' golf team posted the lowest round of any competitor (3-over 75) at Red Tail Landing Golf Club in Sunday's final round to finish second in the men's individual standings.

Other athletes recognized during the past week include second star Hailey Turcotte of the women's golf team and third star Lahai Mansaray of the men's soccer team.

Both Fisher and Turcotte are making their first appearance on the MacEwan three stars list, while Mansaray is already making his third one in the span of five weeks, completing the set after having previously been named first star on Sept. 5 and second star on Sept. 26.

1ST STAR: Les Fisher, men's golf (Falmouth, NS, first-year, Social Work)

Not selected as one of MacEwan's top five players to participate in the team event at the ACAC Championship, Fisher went out and beat them all to finish second overall in the men's individual competition with rounds of 79 and 75 – one shot back of champion Michael Harrison of UAlberta-Augustana. Fisher's 3-over second round, shot on a day that featured a three-club wind, was as good as a trip in the 60s on a calm day.

2ND STAR: Hailey Turcotte, women's golf (Fahler, AB, first-year, Science)

The Griffins freshman wound up as the top MacEwan women's player at the ACAC Championship after rounds of 90 and 86 at Red Tail Landing to finish third individually. Her great second round under cold and windy conditions helped MacEwan win its sixth team title in the last seven years. Turcotte will join fifth-year Griffins players Elizabeth Stewart and Daniela Donnelly in competing at the CCAA Ping Golf national championship in Oshawa, ON Oct. 17-20.

3RD STAR: Lahai Mansaray, F/M, men's soccer (Edmonton, third-year, Science)

Mansaray's big moment of the weekend came in Sunday's 3-1 road win over Lethbridge when he drew assists on all three Griffins' goals, setting a MacEwan record for most points in a Canada West men's soccer game. Mansaray now has eight points (four goals and four assists) in 10 games this season, putting him third in the Canada West scoring race. His points mark is also a MacEwan record for the most in a men's soccer Canada West season and the Griffins still have four games left.
