EDMONTON – Sometimes turning the page is all you can do.

That's certainly what the Griffins women's hockey team intends to do after suffering a tough 4-0 defeat to #YEG rival Alberta in their Canada West season opener on Friday night at Clare Drake Arena.

The stats-line isn't pretty; MacEwan was outshot 33-6 in the one-sided contest.

"I think we watched a lot of the game," said Griffins head coach Chris Leeming. "We just weren't prepared for what they brought, and they were prepared tonight."

Amped up in their home opener, the Pandas got two goals in the second period by Maia Ehmann and tacked on powerplay tallies by Abby Soyko and Brooklyn Tews in the final frame.

Brianna Sank made 29 saves for the Griffins, while rookie Karington Mollin produced half of MacEwan's shots with three.

Turning the page will be crucial as the Griffins will hold their own home opener vs. Alberta on Saturday (5 p.m., Downtown Community Arena, Canada West TV).

"It's a special night you get to have every year," said Leeming. "They sure were pumped to have their home opener. They came to play and we're looking to do the same thing tomorrow.

"We had a good conversation after the game. We just want to hit the reset button and it's a new day tomorrow."
